We're back with interesting stats I hope inspire your business online.
#1 Only 1.4% of local businesses respond to Google My Business reviews
Ouch this stat hurts. In 2018 a research firm looked over 2,000 5-star GMB reviews and noted the owners of said businesses... didn't respond. Did they not care? Were they not aware? Research Reveals The Sad State of Google My Business Listings was a real eye opener. Even if its a positive review, acknowledge it. Prospects are reading them and your timely responses, after all...
My question to you: are you being attentive to your Google My Business listing? It's a quick win for local SEO and takes very little of your time as a business owner.
#2 It costs 5x more to attract a new customer than to keep an existing one
Facebook advertising has been on the minds of many of my consulting clients lately. Yes, they are affordable and somewhat easy to run. However, I like to insure there isn't untapped potential in existing customers before spending the time (and money) acquiring new leads. The Customer Acquisition Vs. Retention Costs - Statistics and Trends inforgraphic breaks this easily. For further 'referral pipeline' how-to's, I recommend this Maiko Sakai article. Follower her on Twitter too because she drops gold nuggets about business on the daily!
My question to you: do you have a new or revamped service that
past clients/customers would benefit from? Send them an email instead of buying another Facebook ad...
#3 What's a good conversion rate for your industry? Check out this friggin
amazing resource!
Sometimes I come across something so useful, so relevant, I shout with joy (my equally noisy pet parrots love these moments).
And yes, it's worth giving your email to unlock the whole thing.
It's about conversion rates for landing pages, which Unbounce specializes in. So we're talking about pages specifically designed to generate leads and sales. Pages you'd direct Facebook or Google ads to, for example. Not
only is it beautiful, it is also very sobering. My industry (business services) has an average conversion rate of only 2.6%. Consultants in particular performed at 2% compared to 4% with Human Resources! What the heck?
It will keep your marketing goals realistic.
My question to you: do you know what your conversion rates are for your website? Without this knowledge, how do you truly know the content you make and the time/money you spend is worth it?
#4 Headlines with 14-17 wordsgenerate76.7% more social shares
No big surprise there! The more context you can provide, the more likely someone will want to share. I figure this stat would help some of you that sweat over how long your blog titles should be. This stat is one of many from We Analyzed 912 Million Blog Posts: Here's What We Learned About Content Marketing by Backlinko. Again, another treasure trove article, especially if you're currently tweaking existing content for a better SEO experience.
My question to you: can you identify your top performing blog posts? Just because someone shares your content doesn't mean instant revenue. Understanding your Google
Analytics cuts the guess work in half, so you focus on the content that matters.
Some recent consulting clients I helped:
A quilting business start their SEO journey
A lifestyle blogger debug a plunge in web traffic reporting
A course creator revamp a landing page for the next round of Facebook ads
An international magazine setup Google Analytics goals to track marketing efforts
A YouTube personality decide if SEO was critical to focus on now or later
Are you effectively tracking the results of your social, content and marketing efforts? Do you have a system in place, or simply assume everything’s going great? In one hour, I'll cover:
Bad habits of website owners that wastes time and resources
Matching business goals to obtainable and realistic outcomes (aka: what are good numbers?)
