How to use a
LinkedIn newsletter to grow your main newsletter

LinkedIn has its newsletter feature, which I haven’t set up. It’s a bit limiting in terms of features and reporting. But, recently I read something that changed my mind! Jay Melone shared how by using his LinkedIn newsletter to send people to his regular one, he grew his list by 18%.

His tactic not only allows him to squeeze more out of his LinkedIn list, but it also takes care of content distribution, too

Also, let’s take a moment to celebrate that 18% increase. So nice. So honest.
So realistic.

My question to you: how are you creating a flow for your audience that allows them to sample your content from different sources?

How to get from 100 downloads per episode to 1000 for your podcast

Plateauing: that annoying thing when you feel like you’ve sort of hit a wall. The good news is it opens you up for experimentation.

Take podcasting, for example. Indie shows can get stuck on 100 downloads/episode, and then have difficulty getting to 1000 and beyond.
Kattie Laur interviewed Jeremy Enns on how to get from 100 to 1000 downloads, which is a wonderful masterclass in marketing growth in general.

It kicks off wonderfully by dispelling the myth of scalable growth we think we get with social media. And then dives into everything from networking, to bringing on guests, and good old-fashioned interacting with your community. Worth a read!

My question to you: how do you know when your marketing has plateaued, and what plan do you have in place when it happens?

A well-designed impact report to inspire you

While for-profit annual reports focus on widgets moved and money made to prove effectiveness, nonprofits and other organizations have the puzzle of showing impact in less tangible ways.

If you’re looking for inspiration on how to prove the good you put into the world, check out the Academy for Sustainable Innovation’s 2023 Impact Report.

I especially like how they encourage readers to dive deeper into specific projects by designing parts of the report as jump-off points.

My question to you: do you give your team enough time to showcase to shareholders and board members the efforts of your org? Good visual storytelling takes time!

An 18-year-old figured out how to make Youtube shorts go viral

Kudos to Jenny Hoyos. At only 18, she’s figured out how to make her YouTube shorts go viral. Over and over again. And she’s damn good at breaking it all down.

Her interview with Jay Clouse is just one gold nugget after another:
  • The art of storytelling for short-form content.
  • How to pick what you’ll create from a larger brainstorm.
  • What metrics to focus on to make better choices faster?

I found this video inspirational, not only for what Jenny figured out, but also for how she approaches it, and where she’s taking her knowledge next. The kids are alright.

My question to you: who do you get professional inspiration from… that’s not from your generation?

What you love about marketing

Last month, I asked what you love about marketing. Here are some answers to inspire you:

“The opportunity to bring value to audiences and be creative every day.”

“How fast it changes and at the same time stays the same. It keeps you on your toes -- you constantly need to come up with new tactics. Yet, if you don't know the perennial basics, you're screwed.”

“All the experimenting and the awesomeness when strategies achieve goals.”

Did you miss the chance to leave your love note to marketing? No worries: you can submit yours right here!

From 0 leads to 2 booked gigs on LinkedIn in a month!

Joe Popovitch, a sales presentation coach, booked two speaking gigs from LinkedIn after just one Marketing Coaching Call with me.

Joe excels at helping business pros make complex topics engaging and deal-closing. He shares his "refuse to be boring" approach on LinkedIn, targeting sales pros wanting impactful presentations.

Yet, LinkedIn felt daunting:
  • Unclear how LinkedIn could meet his goals.
  • Often stuck, he’d end up sharing others’ content.
  • The minimal feedback made efforts seem pointless.

In an hour, we pinpointed Joe's strengths, his target audience, discussion topics, and the how-to.

Joe said it best: “Alison, your process clarified which direction to go.”
The outcome?

Authentic engagement on LinkedIn brings -real- results, without needing a massive following or “hacks”.

It helps having the right support to connect the dots quicker.
